Martin Guptill is New Zealand’s right-hand opening batsman who is known for his destructive batting style.
He was the first New Zealand batsman to score a double hundred in an ODI. This historic inning of (not-out) 237 runs from 163 balls came in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Quarter-Final against the West Indies, which took New Zealand to the semi-finals quite comfortably.
Martin Guptill also has an interesting fact to his name- He was the first man to face a pink ball in a day-night Test match at Adelaide in November 2015. He was the first man to be dismissed in a day-night Test.
In January 2018, he earned the record of being the second New Zealand batsman to score a Test hundred against each of the 9 full-member Test-playing nations.
Martin Guptill first represented New Zealand in the ICC Under-19 World Cup in 2006.
He later made the ODI debut for New Zealand on 10 January 2009 against the West Indies in Auckland. And interestingly he became the first New Zealand batsman to score a hundred on his ODI debut. He had made not-out 122 runs in that match.
He made his Test debut on 18 March 2009 against India in Hamilton, New Zealand. He had scored 14 runs and 48 runs in the two innings of the match.
