Sunrisers Hyderabad have reinstalled the talismanic David Warner as their captain ahead of the forthcoming 13th edition of the Indian Premier League. The southpaw returns to captaincy for the first time since the infamous Sandpaper Gate back in the summer of 2018 at Cape Town.

Kane Williamson led the charge for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2018, recording over 730 runs while also piloting the 2016 champions to the top of the ladder after group stages. Warner returned to the scheme of proceedings last season, and took little time to man center-stage as he donned the familiar Orange Cap last season for his 692 runs.
He was found guilty for the ball-tampering incident that rocked Australian cricket against South Africa in the Test summer of 2018, after which Cricket Australia announced that he would never be considered for the leader’s spot in any competition under CA’s jurisdiction.
But the able leader has been given a new lease of life with the thinking cap now, as SRH look to break their three-year trophy drought; that has seen them falter despite promising performances at various stages.
There is undoubtedly going to be a reinstatement of optimism injected among the pious Sunrisers faithful, as their beloved Aussie leads the side in the highly anticipated season.
Speaking on the official SRH social media (Twitter) page, he announced:
“I’m thrilled to be given the captaincy for IPL 2020. I’d like to thank Kane and Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar Kumar) for the way you guys led throughout the last couple of years, you guys did an outstanding job. And I’ll be leaning on you guys for support and your insight to the game as well. And to the management thank you once again for giving me this opportunity. And I’ll try my very, very best to be lifting that IPL Trophy this year.”
Warner, arguably the best IPL batsman ever for a variety of reasons, will stand forth with his Orange Army as they lock horns with defending champions Mumbai Indians on the first day of April at home.
