IPL 2020: 6 Most Destructive Left-Hand Batsmen

February 23, 2020 By Tarkesh Jha 1 Comment

4. Chris Gayle:

One of the all-time IPL greats, Chris Gayle’s impact might have dwindled in recent years but the sheer aura that encapsulates him refuses to fade away no matter what.

Last season, Gayle played 13 matches and scored 490 runs that included four half-centuries at a strike rate of 153.60. Gayle has come at a stage in his career when he is unable to rack up consistent performances but he surely provides those few innings that turnaround the game for his team and lands them in a match-winning position.

Given how small the margins generally are in the T20 format of the game, such occasional remarkable outings itself are enough for the team to stake a claim to qualify for the playoffs.

So, despite him, reflexes being on the wane, do watch out for a couple of blistering innings in the upcoming season of the IPL.

3. James Neesham:

James Neesham is a new entrant in the Kings XI Punjab squad and could in all possibilities shoulder the responsibilities of batting in the middle order under KL Rahul’s captaincy.

Neesham’s primary skills have improved tremendously in recent times, especially considering how he has developed into becoming a vital and reliable figure for the crunch middle-overs with both the bat and the ball. His power-hitting abilities have arguably improved too, with the man finding boundaries with much more relative ease in recent times.

He will always be one of those players who punch above their weight and hence such kind always tends to stand apart as a peculiar character amongst the other conventional personalities.

Neesham has a strike rate of 141.22 with the bat in T20 internationals and we can expect him to significantly replicate or further that when this extravaganza of a tournament commences this summer.

2. Sherfane Rutherford:

Quite sometime before, Mumbai Indians launched an absolute scoop as they lured Sherfane Rutherford from the Delhi Capitals and added a critical power-hitting batsman in their middle order as a possible alternative for Kieron Pollard.

The Guyana-based batsman did not lit up the tournament with the Capitals last time around, and a major reason behind it was him not being given an apt position to bat in and also the sluggish tracks that Delhi’s home surface often has to offer.

In Mumbai though, he can probably bat at the number five slot if a chance arises and also the fact that Wankhede puts forward an absolute peach to bat on.

Rutherford can be absolutely lethal against pacers and spinners alike and holds the natural talent to dispose of those deliveries into the stands at a consistent rate.

T20 cricket is in the search of such batsmen who can overturn the course of the game within a matter of a few overs and it is all the way more special when such men with the willow would in most possibilities come out to bat towards the second half of the 20-over innings.

Rutherford and Mumbai Indians do seem to be quite an appropriate match according to the current circumstances.

1. Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant is one of the most fearless cricketers of our current generation and he showed that in IPL 2018 in which in scored 684 runs in 14 matches, scoring 1 hundred and 5 fifties. He hit 68 fours and 37 sixes in that season and had an average of 52.61.

His performance in IPL 2019 was also quite good, scoring 488 runs in 16 matches at an average of 37.53. Then we all know his Test debut where he hit a six on the first ball to England’s Adil Rashid in the third Test of the five-match Test series in England.

He repeated the same feat on the Australia tour. And a few months back, we remember him for his innings of 39 runs in 16 balls against the West Indies in the 3rd ODI of the series played in Vizag. All these stats show why he is one of the most destructive left-hand batsmen to watch out for in the IPL 2020.

The way he plays is enough to make any bowler nervous before bowling to him.

Okay, so those were our top 6 most destructive left-hand batsmen to watch out for in IPL 2020.  Which one among these 6 batsmen is your favorite? And mention other destructive left-hand batsmen you think we should watch out for in IPL 2020.
